The guitar is a string instrument played by plucking or strumming and a standard version has 6 strings. The acoustic guitar is a non-electric guitar where the hollow body amplifies the sound. Electric guitars produce sound with by amplifying through electronics using pick-ups which convert the vibrations on the guitar body into electrical energy, which is then amplified through a speaker. Vibrations from the strings are picked up by pick-ups - these are magnetic devices which site on the body of a guitar and convert the vibrations into electrical energy. The energy is then amplified through a speaker. Bass guitars play very low notes and generally have 4 strings.
