Reviews of BBE Sonic Maximizer Plug-In (Macintosh and Windows)
Feature: The presets (bass, guitar, vocals...) are very helpful when using on individual tracks. Gives you a good starting point... Very simple interface. Easy to use.
Quality: Its software? I guess quality was High in that it doesn't crash. I utilizes very little CPU overhead. But It's effect doesn't measure up to the BBE 882, 482 or any other outboard unit. So I guess I would give it a 10 for crash proof solid code and a 4 for achieving good sonic results. (Average: 7)
Value: I'll use it, but it won't be one of my goto plug-in.
Desirability: Yawn
Sound: I use a BBE 482 in my PA system. It puts a final polish and clarity to my live mix. (Hard Rock Band) In my studio I have a full digital mixer connected via 3 ADAT light pipe connections to my computer which is running Cubase SX 2.0. The plug-in is just ok. It provides a much more subtle effect. Too subtle. I have used it on individual tracks and as a mastering tool during final mix-down. Its ok... Just didn't give me the polish I was looking for.
Support: Didn't need support. This area should have a NA (Not applicable) although it is so easy to use I guess that is the best support you can get. So I give it a 10.
Overall: This is a very mediocre product. No matter how good the quality and support are, if the product doesn't accomplish it's sonic mission, its a dog. Sorry BBE, I love my 482 but this plug-in is a dog.
